The musical centerpiece of the Times Square event, Ascent of Time played throughout the square just minutes before midnight to herald in the long-awaited dropping of the ball and the arrival of the year 2000. It was the last music heard in Time Square before midnight and was meant as a triumphant send-off to the old millennium and a hopeful greeting to the next thousand years.
Ascent of Time was performed by the Peabody Symphony Orchestra conducted by Hajime Teri Murai and recorded at the Peabody Recording Studios under the supervision of Alan Kefauver and John Kilgore.
